The Staatliche Samenklenge Elmstein was one of eight facilities nationwide where needed seeds for forest reforestation were obtained. Since 2008, the house has been a museum.

The focus is on the former functionality of the house. The kiln and the other original equipment show the elaborate and lengthy process of tree seed extraction.

There is much more to learn about the forest in the museum. The history of forestry and forest work, the office and status of foresters, tools and tasks are explained in an exciting way.

All important info for the on-site visit

The Museum

Today, the former state-owned seed mill is home to the House of Forest and Forest History. In addition to topics about work in the forest, the way of life of the forest workers' families is also shown. A significant part of the exhibition is devoted to the original function of the building. The Samenklenge was one of a total of eight state seed kilns (Klengen) in which high-quality seed was produced for reforestation. The historic house represents the tree seed extraction with the original machines.

Admission costs 2 euros for adults, 1 euro for schoolchildren aged six and over, and a guided tour for groups costs 55 euros.

Guided tours can be organised on request.
