Mining live & real!
The region along the Lahn and Dill rivers was characterised by iron ore mining and the processing industries until well into the 20th century. With the end of iron ore mining in the Fortuna mine in 1983, this tradition dating back to Celtic times came to an end. Today, guests can visit this last classic iron ore mine in Germany in its original state - an outstanding monument to industrial culture in Central Hesse!
Take a journey back in time to the Middle Ages, to the mysterious underground world of the miners!
Nowhere else in Europe is there a pure visitor mine in the iron ore with a ride in the pit cage 150 m down the shaft, with mine train and machine demonstration - a unique experience! ... know where the iron comes from! Iron is one of our most important raw materials, but who knows where and how it is mined? Dive into an unforgettable mining adventure below and above ground!
