The Museum

Zwischen der Sächsisch-Böhmischen Schweiz und der Kulturstadt Dresden gelegen, erhebt sich die ausgedehnte 800-jährige mittelalterliche Burganlage über das Land.

Untrennbar ist ihre Geschichte mit dem tragischen Schicksal der Gräfin Cosel verbunden, der berühmtesten Mätresse des sächsischen Kurfürsten August des Starken. 49 Jahre verbrachte die Gräfin als Gefangene auf Stolpen und wurde auch dort begraben.
Weitere Besonderheiten sind die Zeugnisse sächsischer Bergbaukunst - unter anderem der mit der Burg verbundene »Stolpener Basalt« sowie der tiefste natursteinbelassene Basaltbrunnen der Erde (84,39 m).
