Die Ausstellung zeigt die kunstvolle Auflösung der Grenze zwischen Kunst und Literatur. Bücher nehmen hier unerwartete Formen an.

«VON A BIS Z. Künstlerbücher in der Sammlung Würth» liefert den Beweis, dass Bücher sehr wohl Kunst sein können. Vertreten sind Werke einer Vielfalt von Künstler/-innen des 20. Jahrhunderts, die auf unterschiedlichste Weise zeigen, wie schön sich die Grenze zwischen Kunst und Literatur auflösen kann.

Ein Schwerpunkt ist dabei dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert gewidmet, in dem vor allem Vertreter von Surrealismus und Dada Grenzgänge zwischen Kunst und Literatur unternahmen. Gerade die Gesetze des Zufalls und die Tiefen des Unbewussten spielten dabei eine bedeutende Rolle. Nach 1945 beginnt die eigentliche Blütezeit der Künstlerbücher. Die Bandreite reicht von kleinformatigen, günstig produzierten Büchlein bis zu aufwendigen Mappenwerken in kleiner Auflage. Oftmals wird nicht nur die Grenze zwischen Kunst und Literatur überschritten, sondern auch das Buchformat verlassen. Künstler experimentieren mit Drucktechniken, Papier und dem Herstellungsprozess eines Buches an sich und schaffen so einzigartige Gesamtkunstwerke.

So unterschiedlich die Exponate, so vielfältig sind auch die Kontexte, in denen die gezeigten Künstlerbücher entstanden sind. Der Gang durch die Ausstellung wird damit zur Entdeckungstour durch die Kunstgeschichte des letzten Jahrhunderts, vor allem aber zu einem grossen Lese- und Schauvergnügen.
