In dem Begleitbuch zu einer von der Landesbibliothek Oldenburg erstmals veranstalteten Präsentation der Privatbibliothek des hannoverschen Sammlers Georg Friedrich Brandes (1719-1791), die in Oldenburg überliefert ist, wird vor der Figur des weithin unbekannten Bibliophilien eine charakteristische Auswahl aus dem Bestand (insgesamt ca. 22.000 Bände) vorgeführt und kommentiert. Leitthemen sind dabei die Aspekte "Bibliophilie", "Aufklärung" und "Anglophilie - Deutsch-Englischer Kulturtransfer". Auch der Kunstsammler Brandes tritt erstmals mit einigen in die Bibliothek integrierten Klebebänden, die teils hervorstechende Druckgrafik in besonderen Zuständen enthalten und eine Vorstellung von der Qualität der verschollenen Kupferstichsammlung vermitteln, in Erscheinung. Der mit reichem Bildmaterial und vor allem auch Dokumenten zur historischen Lektüre ausgestattete Katalog würdigt einen der bedeutendsten deutschen Bücher- und Kupferstichsammler des 18. Jahrhunderts.
