Von den Dingen des Lebens Es sind zumeist unscheinbare Dinge aus dem Alltagsleben, die uns heute eigentümlich anmuten und unsere Neugier oder unsere Erinnerungen wecken. Sie verweisen auf veränderte Arbeits- und Lebensweisen rund um handwerkliche Traditionen und modernes Handwerk. Das Handwerksmuseum Ovelgönne ist ein Spezialmuseum zur Kulturgeschichte des Handwerks und ihrer Bedeutung für die Region. Den Bestand bilden Werkzeuge und Werkstücke der Alltagskultur, vorwiegend aus dem 19. und 20. Jahrhundert. Auch die besondere historische Bedeutung des Ortes Ovelgönne wird präsentiert. Seit 1981 wurde die Heimatkundliche Sammlung immer weiter aufgebaut und verändert dargestellt. Seit 2000 ist der Träger des Handwerksmuseums der Heimat- und Kulturverein Ovelgönne e.V.

Zum Handwerksmuseum gehören drei Gebäude. Die Dauerausstellung erstreckt sich auf zwei Etagen im denkmalgeschützten Haupthaus von 1773.
Im Museumsgarten sind Burg-Modell und Sonnenuhr auch außerhalb der Öffnungszeiten zugänglich.
Im Nebengebäude zeigen wir Sonderausstellungen zu verschiedenen Themen.
Regelmäßige Termine:
Freier Eintritt am Internationalen Museumstag im Mai und am Tag des offenen Denkmals im September.
Zum jährlichen Ovelgönner Pferdemarkt Anfang September ist das Museum geschlossen.
Sie finden uns dann auf der Gewerbeschau beim Ratespiel zu alten Museumsobjekten: Was ist das?.
Am Dritten Advent ist immer der Ovelgönner Weihnachtsmarkt auf dem Platz vor dem Handwerksmuseum (Museum geöffnet).
Danach bis Ende Januar geht das Handwerksmuseum jeweils in die wohlverdiente Winte

 Die Ausstellung im Handwerksmuseum geht der Geschichte der Milch aus der Wesermarsch nach.

Denn die Wesermarsch ist eine historische Kulturlandschaft aus Weideland. Ansiedlung und Urbarmachung dieser von - nicht trinkbarem - Salzwasser überfluteten Marschlandschaft war eigentlich nur durch Kühe möglich, denn sie wandelten Gras in trinkbare Milch um. Auf früheren Viehmärkten, z.B. dem in Ovelgönne, war das ziemlich kleine „Wesermarsch-Rind“ vor 100 Jahren noch oft vertreten und gewann auch hohe Preise bei internationalen Bullen-Körungen. Heute ist es längst verdrängt von größer gewachsenen Hochleistungsrassen, weil deren Euter mehr Milch produzieren. Ob die Kühe wie früher direkt auf dem Weideland oder wie heute von Melk-Robotern in Ställen gemolken werden, markiert die Spanne einer historischen Entwicklung zu einer industriellen Landwirtschaft. In dieser Spannung zwischen früher und heute bewegt sich auch die Ausstellung.
