Der mehrfach ausgezeichnete Fotograf Meinrad Schade gehört zu den aktuell interessantesten Dokumentarfotografen der Schweiz.

Wann ist ein Krieg eigentlich vorbei? Kann ein Konflikt als ›beendet‹ gelten, wenn seine Spuren bis heute die Existenz jedes einzelnen Menschen prägen?

Meinrad Schades Projekt »Krieg ohne Krieg« versteht sich als fotografische Langzeitstudie, die das Davor, Danach und das Daneben kriegerischer und langandauernder Konflikte in den Fokus rückt.
Seit 2003 reist der Fotograf in die Staaten und Krisengebiete der ehemaligen Sowjetunion, nach Israel und Palästina, aber auch nach Großbritannien und Frankreich und dokumentiert dort die Paraden, Museen, Dioramen, Denkmäler, Friedhöfe, Übungsgelände, Ruinen und Erinnerungsrituale, aber auch die Waffenmessen, Testgelände und Schießstände, die sich in den Alltag und in die Gesichter einschreiben.Schade ist kein Kriegsfotograf, der ›nah dran‹ sein will. Ihn interessieren die Auswirkungen und die Präsenz des Krieges im ganz ›normalen‹ Leben, Tag für Tag. Und es gelingt ihm, in seinen Bildern ganze Geschichten zu erzählen.
Meinrad Schade, geboren 1968 in Kreuzlingen, lebt seit 2002 als freier Fotograf in Zürich. Sein Werk wurde mit Preisen und Stipendien, u.a. 2011 mit einem Swiss Photo Award, vielfach ausgezeichnet. Seinem Buch »Krieg ohne Krieg« wurde 2018 ein Deutscher Fotobuchpreis in Silber zuerkannt. In der Schweiz ist »Krieg ohne Krieg« wiederholt vorgestellt worden. Nun ist das Projekt erstmals umfassend in einer deutschen Museumsausstellung zu sehen.
