René Acht  gehört zu den bedeutendsten Schweizer Künstlern des 20. Jahrhunderts.

Pfeil nach unten
VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn 2021
10. October 2021 - 09. January 2022

René Acht (1920-1998), who lived and worked in Fribourg and France, was one of the most important Swiss artists of the 20th century. Works by the painter, draughtsman and paper cutter can be found in leading international museums and collections; he was represented at documenta 2 and the 5th Biennale in Sao Paulo in 1959.

While the proximity to Informel dominated the first half of his work, René Acht developed a reduced lyrical-concrete pictorial language from the mid-1960s onwards. Although René Acht was an internationally renowned painter and graphic artist during his lifetime, both with his informal work of the 1950s and with his late silhouettes, the complete oeuvre of the German-Swiss artist is little known to a wider public today. The Kunstmuseum Singen, the Wilhelm Hack Museum Ludwigshafen and the Aargauer Kunsthaus Aarau have jointly undertaken to change this. The collaboration is taking place in close cooperation with the René Acht estate (Bärbel Acht and Andreas H.H. Suberg).

The first stop of the exhibition sequence is the Kunstmuseum Singen, which from 10 October 2021 to 09 January 2022 will present around 160 paintings, gouaches, drawings, silhouettes and some sculptures by the artist, who lived in Freiburg i.Br. from 1972 onwards. The aim is to present the >whole< René Acht anew.

The exhibition will be accompanied by the publication "René Acht, Lyrisch-Konkret", published by Wienand Verlag. Cooperation partners: Kunstmuseum Singen, Wilhelm-Hack-Museum Ludwigshafen, Aargauer Kunsthaus, Aarau and the estate of René Acht. Additional participating museums: Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Museum für Konkrete Kunst Ingolstadt, Kunstmuseum Basel, Stiftung Museum Schloss Moyland.
