Das Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst – Diether Kunerth wurde im Mai 2014 als spannender Kontrapunkt zur barocken Basilika eröffnet. Der barrierefreie Neubau ist im Inneren ganz bewusst schlicht gehalten, zum Beispiel mit Sichtbetonelementen an den Decken, damit die Kunst voll zur Entfaltung kommen kann. Im Museum stellen neben Diether Kunerth renommierte zeitgenössische Künstler-innen ihre Werke aus. Erste Gastkünstlerin war Deutschlands wohl bekannteste bildende Künstlerin Elvira Bach. Ihr folgten. Silvio Catani (Rovereto), Sabina Bockemühl (Murnau), Wilhelm Holderied (München), Dieter Rehm (Memmingen, München), Helmut Kand (Wien), Jost Heyder (Erfurt) und Miriam Vlaming (Berlin). Im Sommer 2019 war Markus Lüpertz mit seiner Ausstellung Et in arcadia ego im Museum zu Gast.

Hast Du heute schon einen Tiger geküsst? Die Ausstellung zeigt verschiedene Bilder zum Mitmachen. Hier ist nichts unmöglich, denn hier bist Du die Kunst. Ohne Sicherung waghalsig auf einer schmalen maroden Hängebrücke über einen gähnenden Abgrund balanciern, einen ausgewachsenen Tiger am Schwanz packen, oder mit dem Feuerlöscher einen feuerspeienden Drachen bändigen. Bei all diesen Aktivitäten ist es regelrecht erwünscht, sich gegenseitig zu fotografieren.

Die Eindrücke aus den Begegnungen mit den Jugendlichen hat er zeichnerisch, malerisch und auch plastisch umgesetzt. Dies über alle seine Schaffensperioden hinweg.
