Lernen Sie die Tier- und Pflanzenwelt der Elbmündung kennen und entdecken Sie die Geheimnisse der Natur. Werfen Sie einen Blick in einen echten Bienenstock oder lösen Sie am Ebbe-Flut-Modell eine Sturmflut aus. Von den Vogelbeobachtungsstationen blicken Sie auf Watt und Wiesen, die Zugvögeln als „Rastplatz“ dienen. Im ElbeKüstenpark begegnen Sie bedrohten Haus- und Nutztieren wie Schleswiger Kaltblutpferden oder Skudden, ebenso wie alten Obstbaumsorten. Im Museumsgebäude steht die Bedeutung der Elbe-Region für Meeressäuger, Wanderfische und Zugvögel, aber auch als Wasserstraße, im Mittelpunkt. In der Ausstellung „Bernstein – Gold der Küste“ erfahren Sie alles über die Entstehung, Herkunft und Bearbeitung dieses faszinierenden Materials. Regelmäßig zeigt das Natureum Sonderausstellungen.

Kostenlose Parkplätze befinden sich direkt vor dem Eingangsgebäude.
Hunde dürfen angeleint auf das Gelände, aber nicht in die Gebäude. Der Eintritt für den Hund beträgt 1 Euro.
Ein Großteil des Geländes ist barrierefrei zugänglich. Bitte beachten Sie allerdings, dass der Zustand der Naturwege wetterabhängig ist. Die Obergeschosse der Gebäude sind, mit Ausnahme des Turmes, über Rampen erreichbar. Behindertengerechte Toiletten im Eingangs- und Hauptgebäude sind vorhanden.

Noch vor rund 100 Jahren waren Pferde im täglichen Leben unentbehrlich. Bauern beackerten mit ihnen die Felder, Pferdekutschen beförderten die Post und Soldaten zogen hoch zu Ross in die Schlacht. Heute spielt das Pferd im alltäglichen Leben keine Rolle mehr, dennoch ist es aus Kehdingen und Hadeln nicht wegzudenken. Das Natureum Niederelbe liegt inmitten dieser bekannten Pferdezuchtregionen. Zahlreiche weltweit berühmte Pferde wie Deister, Weltmeyer und Desperados erblickten unweit des Museums das Licht der Welt.
Die Reise auf den Spuren der Pferde beginnt allerdings viel früher. Sie fängt an bei den ersten Urpferden, die vor über 50 Millionen Jahren die Urwälder durchstreiften, führt durch das Altertum mit der Domestizierung des Pferdes vor rund 5.500 Jahren bis in die Neuzeit zu den Arbeitspferden. Neben den ›harten Fakten‹ – Biologie, Anatomie und Sozialverhalten – darf auch ein Exkurs in die Mythen und Sagen sowie zu den Kinderträumen rund ums Pferd nicht fehlen. Der ›Ritt‹ endet schließlich im modernen Turnier- und Freizeitsport, bei der heutigen Pferdezucht und bei dem Pferd als Wirtschaftsfaktor.
