The Museum

Halb Haus, halb Kirche - die ungewöhnliche Gestalt des Barther Bibelzentrums ist Programm: Hier werden Bibel und Alltagswelt miteinander ins Gespräch gebracht. Von der mittelalterlichen Schreibstube und Gutenbergs Druckerwerkstatt über biblische Gärten bis hin zu einer spektakulären Multimedia-Ausstellung schlägt die Ausstellung einen weiten Bogen; prominentestes Ausstellungsstück ist die Barther Bibel von 1588. Die zweiteilige Architektur des Bibelzentrums hat dabei selbst eine museumsreife Geschichte: Das mittelalterliche Leprahospital Sankt Georg (niederdeutsch Sankt Jürgen) wurde nach einer Zeit des Verfalls im 18. Jh. als Armenhaus wieder aufgebaut - und ist bis in die 1980er Jahre als solches in Betrieb gewesen. Auch davon weiß die Ausstellung Spannendes zu berichten.
