Das Niedersächsische Spargelmuseum in Nienburg ist nach Schrobenhausen (Bayern) und Beelitz (Brandenburg) das dritte Museum dieser Art in Deutschland überhaupt. Auf 150 Quadratmetern Ausstellungsfläche erfahren die Besucher alles Wissenswerte über das Saisongemüse, vom Anbau bis zum Vertrieb. Das Museum erzählt die 150-jährige Geschichte des niedersächsischen Spargels, der nicht nur rund um Nienburg, sondern auch in den Gegenden um Braunschweig und Burgdorf bei Hannover angebaut wird. Museumsleiterin Kristina Nowak-Klimscha legt Wert darauf, dass die Schau nicht nur eine Region, sondern das ganze Land im Blick hat. Das Spargelmuseum ist in einem 300 Jahre alten Niederdeutschen Hallenhaus im Biedermeiergarten des Museums untergebracht, das in Marklohe links der Weser ursprünglich als Bauernhaus gedient hatte. An Hand von Fotos, aber auch Originalerntemaschinen und Spargelmessern wird die aufwändige Arbeit des Anbaus, die Züchtung und das Wachsen der Pflanze mit ihren vielen langen Wurzeln über Weiterverarbeitung, Konservierung, Vermarktung und Vertrieb dargestellt. Ein Kapitel widmet sich dem Thema Saisonarbeit, das seit jeher eng mit dem Spargelanbau zusammenhing. Sprangen früher Verwandte und Nachbarn ein, mussten während des Zweiten Weltkrieges auch Kriegsgefangene Stangen stechen. Nach 1945 kamen die Erntehelfer erst aus den Mittemeerländern, später dann aus Polen. Im Dachgeschoss hat die wertvolle Burgdorfer Spargelsammlung der Niedersächsischen Sparkassenstiftung mit besonderen Geschirrteilen und Bestecken eine neue Heimat gefunden. Auf dem Außengelände werden Großgeräte wie ein Tiefpflug, ein Dammabräumer und die erste Spargelschälmaschine präsentiert. Ein Highlight ist der Nachbau einer kleinen Spargelbude. Hier wurde das Gemüse früher gewaschen, geschnitten, sortiert und verpackt. Es war aber auch ein geselliger Treffpunkt, wo man sich aufwärmte und klönte.
