Das Europäische Künstlerhaus Oberbayern im ehemaligen Schafhof liegt am Stadtrand von Freising im Großraum München. Der naturnahe Standort, die außergewöhnliche Architektur und das vielfältige kulturelle Angebot machen den Schafhof zu einem Zentrum zeitgenössischer Kunst und einem beliebten Ausflugsziel. Das „Café Botanika“ bietet unseren Besuchern zusätzlich einen kulinarischen Service bei schönster Aussicht in kreativer Umgebung. Träger des Künstlerhauses ist der Bezirk Oberbayern.

Schwerpunkte des Künstlerhauses sind der Künstleraustausch mit Partnerinstitutionen im Ausland im Rahmen des Europäischen Kunststipendiums des Bezirks Oberbayerns sowie ein internationales Ausstellungsprogramm.

Der Künstler Andreas Kuhnlein thematisiert in seiner über 100-teiligen Werkgruppe „Das Narrenschiff“ die Protagonisten aller geschichtlichen Ereignisse, die Menschen, uns selbst. Für die Ausstellung im europäischen Künstlerhaus des Bezirks Oberbayern schuf er, inspiriert von der reichen Geschichte Freisings und des Schafhofs, zusätzlich neue Figuren.Kuhnleins Installation zeigt eine zeitgenössische Darstellung von Figurentypen und Gesten, die in der Kunstgeschichte immer wieder neu bearbeitet werden. Ausgehend vom Motiv des führerlosen Schiffes, welches zuerst von Platon beschrieben wurde, über zahlreiche Variationen ? z.B. in der Malerei von Hieronymus Bosch oder in der Literatur im erstmals 1494 erschienenen titelgebenden Buch von Sebastian Brant ? führt der Künstler die Beobachtung und Ikonografie universeller Formen und Gebärden in seiner unverwechselbaren Formensprache fort. Kuhnleins Arbeiten entstehen mithilfe von Werkzeugen wie Motorsäge, Flammenwerfer oder Schweißgerät. Seine Skulpturen zeichnen sich im Besonderen durch ihre zerklüfteten Oberflächen aus.

Über den Künstler
Kuhnlein, geboren 1953, wuchs auf einem Bauernhof in seiner Geburtsstadt Unterwössen auf. Er absolvierte eine Schreinerlehre und ging nach seinen Gesellenjahren zum Bundesgrenzschutz. 1981 schied er aus dem Polizeidienst aus, übernahm die Landwirtschaft seiner Tante und arbeitete im Nebenerwerb in einem Schreinerbetrieb. In diesem Lebensabschnitt erkannte er die Kunst für sich. Seit 1983 ist er als freischaffender Bildhauer tätig. Bis heute hatte er weit über hundert Einzelausstellungen und mehr als hundert Ausstellungsbeteiligungen in 15 Ländern. (Wikipedia)

Gedanken zur Installation
Anfang der 90ger Jahren schenkte mir ein Bekannter "Das Narrenschiff" von Sebastian Brant, erstmals erschienen 1494. Fasziniert von den Schilderungen menschlicher Laster, Fehlverhalten und närrischer Unvernunft des Menschen, las ich das Reclam-Buch. 2009 wurde ich von der Stadt Traunstein zu einer Einzelausstellung in den Kunstraum (ehemalige) Klosterkirche eingeladen, worauf ich mich entschloss, das Narrenschiff in einer 133-teiligen Installation künstlerisch umzusetzen.Die Szenerie ist in 2 Bereiche gegliedert: In einem rot-braun eingefärbten Hackschnitzel-Feld werden Menschen gezeigt, denen das vermeintlich Bedeutsame wichtiger ist als alles andere. Bar jeder Vernunft recken sie Attribute und "Heiligtümer" in die Luft, den drohenden Untergang ignorierend.Im zweiten, anschließenden Feld, auf festem Boden, sieht man Szenerien menschlicher Handlungsweisen mit offenem Ausgang. Es ist ein Wechselspiel zwischen Untergangsszenario und vernunftbestimmter Handlungsweisen.(Andreas Kuhnlein)
